Hedgehog Escapes Suburbia: Saving Harry Tells The Story Of Real-Life Issues Facing Urban Hedgehogs With A Beautiful Animated Film [Video]

In what could be a play on the film title ‘Saving Private Ryan’ – Saving Hary is an affectionate look at one of our most loved urban creatures.

The film tells of how magical paw prints guide Harry the hedgehog out of suburbia and back into the wild.

Since the 1950s the number of hedgehogs in Britain has fallen from 30 million to 1 million. There are many factors as to what is causing the decimation of their population. Factors include garden improvements and fences which prevent them roaming their territory for food and the reduction in urban wildlife.

Some communities have created hedgehog friendly zones to encourage their return. Putting small holes at the base of fences can help them to wander freely – if done collectively by a community.

We could be faced with possible urban extinction of the much cherished little animal by 2025.
